A message to subscribers and visitors: a blogging report

As writer and editor for various local and national magazines and newspapers, I wrote, covered, or edited articles that were assigned at senior editors’ behest, if considered timely or deemed appropriate for a publication’s readership.

One of the advantages of blogging is that I get to share my perspectives on political, cultural, and social issues, especially as they relate to Black Americans, without gatekeepers.

Nonetheless, I adhere to the same basic principles of journalism espoused by the American Press Association to “provide citizens with accurate and reliable information they need to function in a free society.”

According to APA, this involves “being entertaining, serving as watchdog, (and) offering voice to the voiceless.”

To provide accuracy, I do lots of research and fact-checking, which is time-consuming, before posting a new blog and endeavor to keep to a monthly schedule.

Since my last post was in June, I feel an obligation to provide an explanation to subscribers and visitors.

I recently (and luckily) was diagnosed with aortic stenosis, a treatable condition; however, it has involved lots of doctors’ and specialists’ appointments; hence, an article on Black maternal mortality, scheduled for July, remains unfinished.

As of August 10, I will discontinue postings until after a non-invasive procedure scheduled for September 2023. Until then, follow me out on Instagram and X and check out past posts that I believe are still relevant.

I encourage you to subscribe to keep up to date on future blog postings.
